India play Bangladesh in the second semi-final at Birmingham. India are favorites to go through to the final but Bangladesh have sprung a surprise by beating New Zealand in the tournament.

India, after a clinical performance against South Africa, would like to maintain the same intensity against a team that could prove to be a proverbial banana peel for them.

England’s batting line-up, boasting the likes of Alex Hales, Joe Root, Eoin Morga, Ben Stokes and Jos Butler, has looked to be in an impressive form but is expected to face a stern test against the Pakistan bowling attack.

England have won 12 of the past 14 ODIs against Pakistan, dating back to 2010, including a 4-1 series win on home soil last summer.

However, Pakistan chased 303 to win by four wickets at Cardiff in the last match of that series.

“England are playing unbelievably well,” said Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur. “They are a very good one-day unit with no apparent weaknesses.

“We need to play our best game and, if we do, then we can put them under pressure at different points in the game.
Morgan said:
“They are a strong side and an unpredictable side, which makes it difficult.”

Morgan said :

“The important thing to reflect on is that we have actually won nothing and achieved nothing so far. Tomorrow is a very big game for us.”

India take on South Africa at the Oval on Sunday in a virtual quarter-final. Both teams have a win and a loss under their belt in this tournament and the winner of this clash will march into semi-final while the losing team would be eliminated from the tournament.

Australia will be under pressure as they have to win this match to progress to the next round and hence it will be an interesting contest. While England are already through to the semifinals, all the pressure will be on Australia to perform after washouts against New Zealand and Bangladesh hurt their chances of making the last four.

Sri Lanka had a tough time of it with the bat against South Africa. After doing reasonably well with the ball, there was an opportunity there for the Lankans to make an early Champions Trophy statement

Mathews will not bowl in the match as he is yet to regain full fitness, but his presence in itself is important for the Lankans if they are to have even an outside chance of upsetting India. The captain spent a lot of time facing pace bowlers in the nets, after all in this Indian line-up the pace bowlers are a menacing lot.

ICC Champions Trophy 2017: Hosts ENG eye semi-finals berth
If England wins, they qualify directly, and New Zealand will not only have to beat Bangladesh, but hope hosts continue their winning run against Australia

Hosts England will be keen to book their place in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 semi-finals as they face New Zealand at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. A win against Kiwis will make sure England qualify for the next round.

Steven Finn could come straight into the side to replace Chris Woakes and there may be other tinkerings with the attack, too. However, Adil Rashid could find himself unwanted again; in England’s two ODIs on this ground last year they played just one frontline spinner due to the short, straight boundaries. David Willey could come into contention to replace the struggling Jake Ball – he would also offer some extra batting to compensate for Woakes’ absence.

England :-
England would be hoping to claim maximum points against Bangladesh, who were in for a rude shock in their practice match against India. England, who beat South Africa 2-1 in their three-much One-Day International series just prior to this tournament, look to be in fine nick, though their batting had imploded against the Proteas in the last match of the series.

INDIA vs PAKISTAN

Sunday, 4 June, 3:00 PM

                                                                                            Edgbaston

Two of cricket’s traditional rivalries will be on show in the 2017 Champions Trophy, with hosts England and Australia in Group A, and India and Pakistan in Group B. Group A also contains New Zealand, which means a trans-Tasman clash as well in the first round.

India will take on Pakistan in their opening game of the ICC Champions Trophy at Edgbaston on June 4 but Virat Kohli said his team won’t get carried away with overt emotions in what would be a key match.

Pakistan bowlers will fire against India in Champions Trophy, says Shahid Afridi

India may not have Tendulkar and Sehwag to fight the thunderbolts of Akram, Younis and Akhtar but they will have Rohit and Dhawan — the stars of the last Champions Trophy — to douse the early sparks from Amir, Wahab and Hasan.

But the 2017 Birmingham clash between the fierce rivals on 4 June will not be decided by which of the two teams have had more success in the tournament. It could, like always, be decided by whoever shines brighter on the day — India’s batsmen or Pakistan’s bowlers.

The Champions Trophy is yet to commence but the June 4 tie between India and Pakistan has already generated quite a buzz. With no bilateral series taking place between the two nations, cricket fans across the globe are waiting with bated breath for this contest, which usually throws up plenty of surprises. Considering the depth of their team, the Men in Blue will go in as favorites against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy match. However, Pakistan have done well against India in this tournament over the years

This was evident when Pakistan pacer Junaid Khan took a dig at India captain Virat Kohli. “I have dismissed him in three out of the four matches we have faced each other. He is a brilliant batsman but he has failed against me,”Junaid Khan

The left-arm pacer has bagged Kohli’s scalp three times in four matches. Interestingly, Junaid has conceded just two runs off the 22 balls he has bowled to the stylish right-hander.

Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed said that his team will try to maintain its superior record against India in the Champions Trophy. Unlike ICC World Cup and T20, Pakistan have a positive record against India in the competition – winning two and losing one of their previous meetings.

Sarfraz-Ahmed “We have a better record against India in the Champions Trophy, not in other competitions. We are looking to maintain that against them and it’s very exciting,”

“We have nothing to lose, we just want to play our natural game. We have just played a very good series in the West Indies, where the players performed very well.

“We are very hopeful of playing well in this tournament and we want to win it. It is a very exciting time for us, there have been a lot of practice sessions at Edgbaston and we are ready to play,”

Afridi  The Champions Trophy is the only ICC event where Pakistan have had successes against India. Pakistan won the 2004 match at Edgbaston and then the 2009 match at Centurion.  the Men in Green deliver a rousing performance at Edgbaston to improve their record against India in global events

Afridi  “I feel Pakistan have a formidable bowling line-up that can challenge the Indian batting, especially in English conditions. As always, it would be a game of nerves and both teams would have to maintain their composure throughout,”

The stage will be set and all other skirmishes will take a backseat as Kohli and Amir collide — today’s version of Tendulkar vs Akhtar. If their Asia Cup battle was a preview, the Champions Trophy bout could be a blockbuster.

Six years later, Kohli was one of the best batsmen in the world. And, Amir had to reassure the world, and himself, that his special talent had not withered away with the fixing fiasco.
Pakistan’s left-arm pacer swung the ball at pace, and swung it late. His deliveries appeared to be drifting away from Rohit and Ajinykya Rahane before they darted back in to hit their pads. Suresh Raina was no better at tackling the swing either. India stared at embarrassment 8 for three.
